Can you buy a car with a learner’s license?

If you have wads of cash and a car in mind, but you don't have a license, can you still buy a car?

The short answer is 'yes', you can indeed buy a car without a valid driver’s license, as there is no law in SA that keeps you from doing so. But can you legally drive the car you bought without a license? Definitely not. As for car finance – no one is going to finance nor insure you if you do not hold a valid driver’s license, so you had better swipe your credit/debit card for the whole amount.

So, unless you have your real license, you will just have to sit inside your new car in your mom’s garage and pretend to drive it. Maybe your little brother can be your co-pilot and make the necessary car noises to make it feel more real. Kind of sad, isn’t it?
